DTF, or Direct To Film, is a printing technique that entails directly printing a design onto a film and then transferring it onto T-shirts made of cotton, polyester, or their blends. The whole process is firstly printing patterns with color ink and white ink on film, then shaking powder, drying the powder, heat pressing the pattern onto the fabrics, and then peeling off the film to complete the perfect transfer of the patterns. This method is versatile and can make it suitable for T-shirts of any color, with white ink.

When customers request their vendors to provide DTF film, vendor will always ask, what type do you need? For this question, customer need to tell below several information.

1.Size of roll. Common width of DTF film roll is 30cm and 60cm. Regular length is 100 meters. Customer needs to decide the width. 

2.From matt finishing, the DTF film is divided into single side and double side. Single side means single side matt finishing. Double side means double side finishing.  

How to choose the right quality film for the DTF printing? First, let’s take a look at what kind of DTF printer you are using. If it’s an older model, the pressure rollers come in single and double configurations. It is recommended to use double-sided printing film. Early DTF heat transfer printing technology was not mature enough, and some manufacturers’ DTF printers had issues with the printing film slipping and the paper arching, scratching the print head. Double-sided printing film increases friction, preventing the printing film from slipping and the paper from scratching the print head during printing. If it’s a three-roller white ink printing machine currently using pressure rollers, neither single-sided nor double-sided film will slip.

3.Based on peel off time, DTF film can be grouped into cold peeling and hot peeling. 

-- Cold peeling means operator needs to wait the heat pressed film to cool down. 

-- Hot peeling, mean operator can peel off the film when the film is still warm. But need to wait for several seconds after taking out of the pressing machine.

Thickness of film is regularly 75UM. Suggested transfer temperature: 266 - 320 °F. Suggested Press Time: 10 to 15 seconds.

The DTF printing is easy to handle. The non-printing side of DTF transfer film is specially treated to be Static Free. No powder residue after shaking.
